ETC Group

Problem

ETC Group provides energy efficiency analytics tied to building system data. Rather than have their customers open up firewall rules to the public internet, the company sought out IPsec VPN solutions.

Solution

For customers who do not deploy the ETC Group server within their network, VNS3 gives more options for secure connectivity to cloud-based servers, external servers, and even future IoT devices outside the network.

Outcome

“The great thing about VNS3 is that we can learn the platform and the setup and replicate it to those different firewalls rather than customizing it each time,” said Jake MacArthur, Monitoring and Analytics Product Director at ETC Group. ETC Group can then speed up time to connect to customers and reduce operational complexity.

Security & Compliance

LocusView

Problem

A subsidiary of the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) was facing an increasing stream of requests for documentation, certifications, and penetration test results from their customers in the natural gas and energy sectors. LocusView’s IT team wanted to answer each request for security information with a consistent package of responses.

Solution

LocusView used the NIST Framework to identify and consolidate security policies for individual applications, and was able to document and discuss plans as issues arose to simplify and shorten the process. Cohesive also provided VNS3 firewall virtual machines to manage and secure LocusView’s network.

Outcome

Since implementing Cohesive’s approach to the NIST Framework, LocusView’s passed initial audits and the first of several penetration tests.

Energy Meters and Smart Metering

Problem

The company needed to connect a customers’ data center resources to Azure. They hoped a site-to-site VPN would work, but needed to use NAT-traversal/encapsulated IPsec connections.

Solution

After setting up a trial with VNS3, They created a production VNS3 to Azure connection.

Outcome

Cohesive Networks support teams helped the company set up a VPN between the customer and the Azure subnet, where VNS3 maps the public IP address to the internal IP address. As their customers grown, they plan to add more connections.

Outcome

The company was able to connect together a disparate group of power providers in order to provide pre-paid solar energy at an incredibly affordable price to the mass market in Africa.
